How to prevent Electro Static Discharge from damaging your computer

* Do not forget to shut down your computer and turn off the switch on your voltage regulator but leaving it plugged in so that it will still be grounded.
* Always ground yourself by touching materials made from metal before touching any of the components inside your computer.
* You can discharge the static electricity in your body by touching the metal chassis whilst wearing an antistatic wrist strap. By doing this any static electrical charge that builds up on your body will immediately transferred to ground.
* Always handle your expansion cards by their edges that way you won’t accidentally damage your computer when there is still static electricity in your body.
* Refrain from touching your computer or working on your computer while standing on carpet. Carpets can easily build up static electricity on your body.
* Utilize the Anti static bags that came with your computer hardware parts when you purchased it until you are ready to use it again. Your computer hardware parts are susceptible to damage from static discharge when you just leave it lying around.
* Working in cold, dry conditions will likely build more static electricity in your body. While a room with humidity between 50 to 60% is safe from this kind of problem.
* Refrain wearing woolen or nylon clothing while working on or repairing your computer since it can also help in producing ESD.
* Clothing can also be electrically charged so keep your clothing away from drives, boards, memory, etc.
* To place ground on the metal case of your pc, leave your PC plugged into an AC outlet with the power switch turned off.

These are only few of the things that you can try to lessen the chances of your pc getting damaged from static electricity.
